Pakistan's foreign minister said the new mutual-defence agreement signed with Saudi Arabia and Turkey was not directed against any country. The three leaders signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7 amid heightened regional tension.
The accord treats an attack on one signatory as an attack on all three and provides a framework for closer security and defence cooperation. Pakistani and Turkish officials described it as defensive and said it does not cancel existing bilateral or multilateral commitments.
Islamabad also said the arrangement could remain open to other countries prepared to support peaceful conflict resolution and strategic cooperation. Analysts will now watch how the pact develops in practice and whether additional regional states seek membership.
