Motorists in Abu Dhabi are waking up to dense fog this Sunday morning, prompting safety alerts and reduced speed limits on major roads. Meanwhile, rain is expected to make an appearance later in the day across parts of Dubai and Al Ain, as the UAE braces for unstable weather conditions.
🚗 Fog Alert in Abu Dhabi: Drive with Caution
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued red and yellow alerts for several areas in Abu Dhabi, warning of significantly reduced visibility due to early morning fog. These conditions are expected to persist until 8:30 AM, urging drivers to remain cautious on the roads.
In a public advisory posted on X (formerly Twitter), Abu Dhabi Police reminded motorists that speed limits during fog conditions are automatically reduced to 80 km/h on affected roads. They also emphasized the importance of monitoring electronic road signs that display updated speed limits during weather changes.
“During periods of fog, the maximum speed on Abu Dhabi roads is reduced to 80 kms/hr, and motorists are urged to follow this limit for their own safety and that of other road users,” the statement read.
🌦️ Rain Forecast for Dubai, Al Ain & Eastern Regions
Later in the day, the weather across the UAE is forecast to be partly cloudy to hazy, with rain-bearing clouds expected to develop over the eastern and southern regions. This includes Al Ain and some parts of Dubai, where light to moderate rainfall is likely.
According to the NCM, this shift in weather is due to a weak surface low-pressure system from the east, coupled with the influence of an upper-air high-pressure system. These conditions are ideal for the formation of convective clouds that could bring localized rain showers.
🌡️ Temperature and Humidity: What to Expect
Temperatures will remain intensely hot across the country, with highs ranging between 44°C and 49°C, especially in inland and desert areas. The cooler side of the spectrum, primarily during the night and early morning hours, will see lows between 32°C and 37°C.
Humidity is expected to rise tonight and into Monday morning, increasing the chances of mist formation, particularly in western coastal and internal areas. This could impact visibility in the early hours, similar to today’s fog alerts.
🌬️ Winds and Sea Conditions
Winds will be light to moderate, occasionally becoming fresh, especially in open desert areas, where blowing dust may reduce visibility. Sea conditions will remain slight to moderate in both the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea, making it generally safe for maritime activities, though caution is advised.
